brian bell
Brian Bell is a stage director and writer based in Germany. Originally from Texas, Brian’s work ranges from original scripts to musical theatre as well as the classical repertoire in both English and German. From 2006-2012 he lived in Chicago where he was the artistic director of Cabaret Vagabond and an ensemble member at Adventure Stage Chicago. In 2012 Brian's world premiere production of The Feast by Tony Fiorentino was nominated for a Joseph Jefferson award for Best New Play.
In 2014 he made his directorial debut, with Tracy Letts’ Killer Joe, at the Deutsches Nationaltheater in Weimar, where he was the assistant to the artistic director from 2013-2015. He has staged work at the German state theaters in Weimar, Meiningen, Chemnitz, Heilbronn, Baden-Baden and Ingolstadt. A passionate interpreter of the works of Shakespeare, he recently directed a production of Titus Andronicus at the Vagantenbühne in Berlin, where he works regularly.
In addition to his artistic practice, Brian has also taught courses and master classes in acting, directing, and comedic technique at the Universität der Künste, Cours Florent, and the European Theater Institute in Berlin, as well as the International School of Toulouse in France and Southwestern University, the University of North Texas and Dominican University in Chicago, among others in the U.S.
Brian is a Goethe Institute Directing Fellow, was Director in Residence at the English Theatre Berlin, as well as having devised Projekt G in Tokyo & Fukushima (JP). In 2021 he was a guest director at Teatre Lliure in Barcelona (ES) as a part of the Directors Lab Mediterranean. He lives in Berlin.
